Experience is not everything and don’t let a photographer tell you it is. Check out the horror stories page if you don’t believe me.
However, experience is important and it can make things go smoother if there are problems. Just like with any other job the longer you do something the more comfortable you are with it. If you are at any job for 10+ years you are surely going to see any number of different situations. So an experienced photographer has seen it all.
But a newer, less experienced photographer is quite possibly just as talented, if not better than, as the veteran photographer. With technology and styles constantly changing it takes a lot to keep up with it all.
Make sure you see a portfolio from a photographer before discussing anything further. If you are going to pay them you have to make sure they have actually taken pictures.
